The Lakeview Memorial Garden was designed to double the density of interments in one of the few undeveloped areas at Maple Grove Cemetery in Queens, New York. The site, adjacent to a small pond, was selected to test the market for shared memorialization -- a concept that offers great potential to increase available interment space at the cemetery. The design concept was to create a series of garden spaces that were arranged symmetrically along and axial view to the pond. Individual memorial stones with adjacent in ground or cremation burial were combined into walls, piers, and stone edges to create intimate garden spaces for burial and commemoration. Three columbaria structures were also provided for niche interment of cremains.
