An important component of the development of the new memorial walled garden was the need to upgrade the adjacent pond landscape. The pond improvement work was intended to achieve three important objectives: to create a beautiful landscape with spaces for quiet contemplation for both grave site visitors and the public, to create memorial spaces which could be sold to defray the cost of the reconstruction effort, and to improve the water quality of the pond which was badly eutrophied. The design included a pathway around the pond with viewing places. Large boulders excavated during the development of new interment space were incorporated into the planted beds for memorial inscription. An overlook constructed with curved stone edging would be used for memorial inscription in association with cremation burial.
